The Dentist is In

I fiiiiinally strong-armed Jack into doing a vlog with me.  It was not easy, I was starting to sweat (as you can see by the unraveling and retying of my hair), and then the program I use to edit videos started a riot and I had to start from scratch.  We’re fine now, but there’s an ominous black bar that is missing bits of funny (IMO, of course) subtitles.  On the plus side, if I accidentally left my zipper down, that black bar is my saving grace right now.

It’s like a Super Bowl commercial, except not as good as the Taco Bell one but WAY LESS CREEPY than the GoDaddy one.  That’s… good enough, right?

WHADDUP, Dr. Chu!  I think about you every time I have to answer the security question “What is the name of your first employer?”  :)

In case you missed some major points in the video, or just in case you gave up on us four seconds in (no one would blame you, boo), here are the basics:
- Brushing alone misses 75% of your mouth.  (I was right, Jack.)
- By using LISTERINE Ultraclean twice a day, you can get up to 9 times healthier gums in 4 weeks.
- Oral disease is now the most chronic childhood illness in the US.
- There are over 15.4 million children without dental insurance!!  :O  :(
- For every person who signs up for the challenge, LISTERINE will make a contribution to Oral Health America’s Smiles Across America to help kids get need oral health services.

Listerine Challenge

For more info, coupons, eye-opening stats, and to sign up for the challenge and simultaneously help a child in the US, holla @ LISTERINE on Facebook.

What was your first job?  Did it involve root canals and drop cloths that catch blood?  Why didn’t I just work at the mall?

You and Jack are just the cutest. And Johnny and I are all about mouth wash in this house… although, since our baby girl was born, our oral hygiene has definitely taken a turn for the worst. Floss? Nope, too tired.

My first job was as a babysitter… I nannied the summer after high school graduation and got paid crap by my neighbor. Woo!

Roo February 8, 2013 at 10:12 am

Haha, Jack uses mouthwash all the time. I’m an avid flosser, but I’ve never done the Listerine thing before. Trying it now…!

Oh bummer… I think out of the three of us, Jack’s job was the most glamorous. Everyone loves Christmas trees. :)

So fun!
My first job was a lifeguard at my neighborhood pool. There was only a little blood involved.

Teeth are important. I couldn’t agree more. I always preach to my daughter the following three things are so important in life and can’t be stressed enough: good teeth, good manners and good credit. I floss every day. Like a maniac. Seriously. Was dude’s name really Dr. Chu?

Reply

Roo February 8, 2013 at 10:05 am

That was literally the moment that I told Jack his name was Dr. Chu AND the moment I realized how funny it is for a dentist to be named Dr. Chu.

I love those three things! Your daughter’s in good hands, Brad!

My daughter and I were just watching a Listerine commercial on tv just last night and I told her that my grandmother swore by , wait, no, my grandmother didn’t swear at all, but she used Listerine daily! About time I go see what I have been missing!

My first job was working at Capt. Andy’s Rivertowne Restaurant which was our local version of Chuck E. Cheese.

Funny you have this today because yesterday on FB I mentioned Listerine. Turns out that you don’t need the burn for the product to work. They add it because consumers think it means it works. Interesting fact!

Reply

Roo February 8, 2013 at 2:12 pm

Oooooh I’ve never heard that, Wendy!

My first job was working summers in the counseling office in my high school. Exciting stuff. As far as mouth wash–love it. I use it daily. Flossing? Yeah, that’s a little less regular.

Reply

Roo February 8, 2013 at 1:37 pm

I feel so accomplished when I floss. :)

My first job was at Dairy Queen – making blizzards!
But whaaaattt… I didn’t know you were a dental assistant! I’m a Dental hygienist – and I also work in some pretty Grody mouths on a fairly regular basis (2 times a week, to be exact!) and I do recommend Listerine to several of my patients – unless of course they have dry mouth!

Roo February 8, 2013 at 1:37 pm

Oh daaaang we could have been buds, rollin two deep in the same practice. Hey, is your dentist’s name Dr. Chu?

I vote for more Jack and Roo vlogs!

Roo February 8, 2013 at 6:51 pm

Dang, that’s pretty hardcore, Jenn!! Did you like it?

Reply

Jenn C. February 8, 2013 at 11:09 pm

Yeah! The work was pretty easy, and my mom worked there too and bought snacks for me all the time. Folks were sad when I left because I’d been doing a lot of their jobs for them!

Reply

Roo February 11, 2013 at 10:47 am

Dang, I bet! I did, for a short time, intern at the same company where my mom worked. She totally bought me snacks, too!

Never knew oral health could be so funny. My first “real” job was a receptionist for a construction company. Let’s just say that the word Mafia came to mind many times. The guy was a trip though – he’d fart, take off his toupee and have me send letters to only Italian people. Good times.

Reply

Roo February 11, 2013 at 11:00 am

Whaaaat. That sounds like the scariest job ever!

Reply

Ann February 9, 2013 at 12:21 am

My first job was as a dental assistant too! Not kidding! I thought I was being hired to answer phones, and next thing I knew, I was chairside handing instruments to the dentist. Pretty crazy for a 17 year old.

Reply

Roo February 14, 2013 at 2:22 pm

Seriously, I was like.. what is this. What am I doing? You want me to do whaaat? Can’t I just lick envelopes?

You guys are too funny. And I have to say Jack is right, Dr Chu (Chew) for a dentist is hilarious! My first job was at 14 working at my Dads plumbing construction company, then my first real job was working at Arbys.

I have listerine in our bathroom but rarely use it, I think I might take listerine up on this challenge.

I’m going to throw my hubs under the bus on this one, but it’s so true how important good, basic, dental hygiene is!! His mom is very leery of doctors (“BAAAAH…they’re all out to get your $$$$!!!”) and evidently dentists were towards the top of that list, so he did NOT have good dental habits growing up. He finally wised up in his early 20′s (I think…sometime before we started dating, THANK GOD) & started faithfully brushing & swishing. Buuuuut, he still hadn’t gone to the dentist. Before he left his full time job with benefits (to work with HFM…ahhhh, memories) he figured he should actually take advantage of his dental benefits & get a cleaning. Well, 2 cleanings & 2 separate filling appts (to fill 10 cavities) later he had learned a valuable lesson & our munchkin will have superb dental hygiene!! :)

Roo February 14, 2013 at 2:23 pm

Ohhh man. Yeah, we’re on top of the dental hygiene in this house. :)
